Hi Wendy,

I have installed several NICs in laptops where I work. The only 3COM I had
success with was in a Gateway Solo 9300 Professional. In every other case,
one specific instance on a Toshiba 440CDT, the 3COM NICs would not work, but
a Xircom would install and work flawlessly. My recommendation is Xircom.
As far as speed goes, I'm not sure if it makes a difference. If you get a
10/100 you should get the same burst rates regardless of brand. The
issues/problems that usually arise are incompatibility or cheap equipment
just not working. Xircom's do not fall into the "cheap" category. Keep in
mind, the speed issues are just my opinion. I have no hard data to support
this. My two cents.
