Who would you call with OS problems, the guy that built it? Would he charge
you every time he talked to you? You're right, HP was not a good deal -
they even admited that they sold space on MY hard drive to advertisers "to
keep costs down." That stuff is all in the "Recovery Partition" and
"Recovery CD Set." However, Best Buy has been very helpful when I have had
questions or problems, I will say that. I installed a hard drive and a
DVD-writer and that wasn't hard. Maybe I should take a course and learn to
build my own PC. Are the courses at colleges or 2-year colleges any good?
My degree is in Information Systems, but I don't know a lot about hardware.
Again, anyone know what an SM Bus Controller is and what it does?

Yes. Go to your local independent computer store/tech. Have him/her build
you a "whitebox" machine. It will include (or not include) exactly what you
choose. It will be repairable and restorable. You will have the disks for
OS, drivers, and software in your possession. And when you have a question,
the answer is usually only a quick phone call away. You may pay just a bit
more, but then, was that HP really such a good deal?? :)
