The auction sight Onsale.com has been selling new Hewlett Packard Scan Jet 4C
scanners for weeks now. Typically, they go for less than $200.

These flat bed scanners use the SCSI interface (they come with a small ISA
SCSI card that works with Win3.1, 95, 98, and NT4). They are very rugged and
fairly big and heavy. (I dropped mine from a table top and it still works
okay.) They were top of the line $950 (retail) not too long ago and are about
the equivalent of the smaller and lighter HP SJ 6100 scanner which HP sells
today. (The 6100 can be used as either a SCSI *or* USB device. I doubt if
many people could tell the difference between the 4C and the 6100 as far as
scan quality goes.) The HP 4C comes with light versions of OmniPage OCR,
Corel Photo Paint, Paper-Port, and HP's own scan and copy software. It has
a one year warranty from HP.

If interested, check out <http://www.Onsale.com/category/Scanners.htm>
or <http://www.onsale.com/category/Express_Auctions.htm>.
The winning bids for this scanner usually end up between $161 and $201.

Onsale puts a few dozen up for bid each day. I've been happy with their
service after buying 2 of these scanners, 4 hard drives, a modem, and a
sound card from them in the two months.

Regards,
Bill
