From my experience, it goes a little something like this...  I had to
install an HP 4 Plus with a usb to parallel adapter a few weeks ago at
work.  You connect up the adapter, but I had to manually install the
printer through the add printer wizard (maybe because of the age of
the printer).  At that point I chose to set it up on the USB port and
it worked and the driver for the HP 4 Plus had to come from Windows
Update.  (System was Windows 7 64 bit)
