Joe,

The first thing you need to do, is determine
exactly what is running in the background.
Until you/we know for sure, any advice is just
a shot in the dark.

Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open the TASK MANAGER
this will list the majority of software that is currently running.

Also, you can cross check that list by running SYSEDIT
to look at AUTOEXEC.BAT, CONFIG.SYS, and WIN.INI
to see what is being RUN or LOADed.

And lastly, use REGEDIT to check for RUN, RUN ONCE,
RUN SERVICES, and RUN SERVICES ONCE keys.
