Add the flash program files to yourregular boot floppy and run it from there.  Before everyone had flash programs you had to do it manually off the boot disk. I used to do flash updates to the Phoenix Bios on my old Gateway, and nothing bad ever happened.  I was nervous doing it, but it always worked. Dell's flash update does make a bootable disk, and that is what I've been using, but I have also used one from Asus, Tyan, and Intel.  I've never had a failure or a dead mobo because of it.
