There are some older models of STB and Diamond cards that are selling for
well under $100 right now  - like around $50 for some - that are quite good
performers.  However, if he is thinking of trying to speed up his games by
using 3D video, he might instead consider upgrading to a faster CPU.  Many
games these days, including many that could benefit from 3D acceleration,
also require a minimum of a 100MHz CPU.  I've even seen some that require a
133.  And if that is the minimum, it would definitely help to have
something even faster than that ...
