I moved a drive from a burned-out motherboard to a different system with no
problem with recognition of OS or programs installed on that drive.  I did
have to call Microsoft to re-authenticate the OS, XP Pro SP 1.  This took a
few minutes and involved entering MS' horrendously long alphanumeric code
one-fingeredly (holding phone with other hand...).

I did change the video driver after the move but was able to view the
display before doing so.

Worth trying!!!   And, of course, YMMV!
