Hi William,

Here is what I did:

The computer I have came with two USB ports on the back of the machine.
I had one port connected to my Cannon printer and one port to the USB
1.1 hub. On the USB 1.1 hub was my Umax 3400 scanner and a couple of
hook ups for digital cameras. What I did was move the Umax 3400 scanner
from the USB 1.1 hub to a port on the PCI card. It liked it there and
works much better than it did before. Then, I moved the USB 1.1 hub to
a port on the PCI card and it seems to be working fine. Next, I plugged
the USB drive into the USB port on the back of my computer that was
opened by moving the USB 1.1 hub to a port on the PCI card. It, too,
seems to be working fine now.

Here is currently what is shown in DEVICE MANAGER:

Storage device
   USB Disk
Universal Serial Bus controllers
USB 2.0 PCI to USB Enhanced Host Controller
   USB 2.0 Root Hub Device
Universal Serial Bus controllers
   Canon BJC-2100
   General purpose USB Hub
Intel(r) 82801AA USB Universal Host Controller
NEC USB Open Host Controller (E13+)
NEC USB Open Host Controller (E13+)
   USB Mass Storage Device
   USB Root Hub
   USB Root Hub
   USB Root Hub

It looks to me like the "USB Mass Storage Device" shown above should not
be there, but all seems to be working so I don't plan to touch it. BTW,
the external HD was showing up just fine before I plugged in the hub on
the PCI card. It still is working fine.

Thanks to all for the help.

Loy
