Dennis,
most scsi drives that have 68 pin connectors are ultra-wide that is they
support burst transfer rates of up to 40 megabytes a second, where as
ultra-scsi supports rates at up to 20 megabytes a second. I have use those
adapters with no problems with several different configurations and have had
no problems. Just make sure all of your stuff is properly terminated and
with your scsi ids set to where you want them. For the most part scsi specs
are usually pretty good about backwards compatibility from either the host
adapter or the hardware. Depending on your needs ultra scsi should be ok
speed wise, if you are considering purchasing a new adapter, price shop for
a ultra2 scsi which is the latest and greatest, it supports burst data
transfers at up to 80 megabytes a second and prices are starting to become
reasonable on them. Hope this helps.
