You haven't provided enough information to answer your most important
question, "can they be mixed?"  I have some 486 boards that do and
some that don't.  Failure to mention EDO in the manual is not proof that
it won't work.  You have to give it a try.  However, if your CMOS has a
RAM type setting, you will not be able to mix ram types.
If you don't have a RAM type setting in CMOS, you can experiment to find
out what the board will work with.  Fast Page (non-edo) 72 pin simms are
not hard to find.  For a bonus to a friend, find someone who has Fast Page
installed on a Pentium and swap him for 2 16 meg EDO simms.  You will
save a dollar or two and he gets better ram.  Some 486's have the capability
to gain a slight performance boost from EDO, some don't.
