Paul:

This should be very easy, so long as the disk parameters
in CMOS were standard (or if you copied the C/H/S settings).

Assuming it is an IDE hard drive:

1. Install the drive in another PC of similar or later vintage;
2. Set the drive select jumpers (master/slave) of the drive
   and its partner (if any) on the same IDE channel;
3. Cable the 40-wire data ribbon (red edge towards pin #1);
4. Plug in power;
5. BOOT, go into CMOS and set the disk parameters of the drive**
6. Run your virus protocol; and
7. Transfer the data to another drive (or leave the drive installed).

** if you don't have the Cylinders/Heads/Sectors information (and
   CMOS doesn't have hard disk autodetection or there is no
   information on the drive itself), use software like IDEID
   from Microhouse to determine the driver's parameters.
