Here's a question I've been trying to find the answer to for quite some time. I got Windows 98 Second Edition CD-ROM (full install) on sale from a local computer store lately and on my two home computers I have Windows 98 first edition.

The manual says that the Win98 SE CD-ROM can be used to upgrade DOS, Win 3.1, Windows 95, and of course to fix or re-install on a computer Windows 98 SE already on it, and to install onto a computer with no operating system.

But when I try to install it on my Windows 98 1st edition computers it says there's already an operating system and stops at that point. I've tried renaming the WIN.COM file and some things like that but nothing works.

Does anyone know of any way to install Windows 98 SE full install over Windows 98 1st edition without deleting the whole operating system, etc?

  Thanks,
