Flashing the BIOS is basically updating you BIOS (Basic Input Output
System). The Bios Chip is a flash memory chip that allows reprogramming if
you will of this chip. But it can be very dangerous if you are not careful.
If during flashing there is even a slight power drop or surge, or if the
flash program hangs, you can very easily end up with a dead mother board.

Flashing will usually fix small problems that the BIOS maker found after
releasing the original chip, but won't fix manufactured limitations of a
motherboard.

For example, if your mother board is limited to a 233 mhz K6 chip, and you
want to install a 550 mhz K6-III chip, flashing the BIOS will not allow this
since there are other physical things on the motherboard that still would
not allow it. Same with memory.
