The problem turned out to be with the swap file. I had somehow corrupted the System.ini entry that points Windows to the drive where the swap file resides. Since Windows couldn't find the file (called pagefile.sys) it created a new one on the same drive and consequently ran out of room. I've rewritten the path and the problem as subsided. This probably sounds a little strange, but the set up takes a bit of explaining and I'm sure the relevance of which is not that important here. Thanks for the suggestion.
