For starters it will be awfully hard to get into your BIOS since that also
requires using the keyboard. Try borrowing a keyboard that works on another
computer to see if you have a dead or defective keyboard.  When it says
press F1, have you done that and nothing happens?  Are you sure that the
keyboard is plugged into the right port?  Is it a serial or PS/2 plug? If it
isn't the keyboard (i.e. a working keyboard from another computer won't work
on your machine either), you may have a dead port on the mobo.


I have obtained a 586/120 Mhz CPU and it does not complete the start-up
process.  After reading the RAM, it shows the message "keyboard error" press
F1...

Well, if the keyboard does not read (no beeps, no lights) how can I "press"
F1 to do anything?

I have unplugged everything and re-plugged everything several times to no
avail.  Same "message".
