Some MotherBoards only support "upto" a certain size in each slot.
(There are sometimes other limitations too.)
Example, I have some 1G sticks from different computers that will
not work in a machine with a 512M per/slot limit.

Go to almost any RAM manufacturer WEB site and use their ""
pop down menus to see what your MB requires, (or will accept.)
PNY, Crucial, and Kingston all have good ones.
Put the following string (with the quotes) into Google:

                        "memory configurator"
