The data show that Central America was populated by 22,000 years ago and perhaps as long ago as 45,000 years but there is no evidence that they were European. Europe itself was only beginning to be populated at about this time and the European populations were pushed back south with subsequent glaciations up to about 13,000 to 10,000 years ago when humans followed the retreat of the glaciers. There is a very interesting and relevant chapter, The Peopling of the Americas, in Stephen Oppenheimer's book "The Real Eve" Carroll & Grapf 2004 that outlines the relevant data and competing perspectives on this issue. I am persuaded by the evidence offered by Oppenheimer. Others may not be.

Best Wishes,
Ron
