All human women have 'about' the same amount and size of
milk glands, ducts and tubules. They only become larger when
lactating.

Ardeith writes:
According to my daughter, who attended LaLeche League
meetings when she was nursing her babies.....this is correct.
And since so few men are turned on by a lactating breast, you
have to wonder why males are so hung-up on them......And
yes, I do know that some men DO appreciate lactating breasts.

<snipped>Animals -including humans before they became civilized
and decided to talk during sex - use rear entry almost exclusively.
BUTTS were the target, so BUTT-shaped would be the visual trigger.

Ardeith writes:
No chimp or gorilla (our cousins) has a bulbous butt....
they are all flat-assed......but when in estrous, their vaginal
area swells visibly....and in some primates changes color....
there's no evidence our very early ancestors had any more
tush than an ape. Walking upright gifted us with our bulbous
butt muscles, and hid the vaginal area between our legs.....
and for heterosexual males, the vagina is the target. I doubt
our ancestral fathers mistook butts for vaginas.
Desmond Morris said that our well-defined lips mimiced the
vaginal lips, and our breast swelled to mimic our butts.......
But then, I suspect Desmond is a teat-man.....
Bonobo chimps have the typical flat tubular teats of other
apes, and engage in frontal sex as often as any other
approach.....they are almost our equals when it comes to
frequency and variety in sex.....the females are receptive
all the time....not just when in estrus........

Fawn wrote:
<snipped somemore>There is absolutely no connection between
breast size and nursing capability.

Ardeith writes:
Amen! My little "fried-egg" sized Mama had all the milk my
sister and I could use.....While I, with "grapefruit" on my
front, had several frustrating weeks before the milk-factory
got into full production.......However, my only son does not
seem to be overly hung-up on teats............

Do breasts have the same sexual powers in societies where a)
they are constantly on view, and b) children are allowed to nurse as long
as they like, to whatever age?

Ardeith writes:
Think back to all the old National Geographics your grandfather
had stashed in the attic.....most human females around the world
used to run around with breasts exposed. It is only the influence
of European culture that put clothes on them. No one was asking
the men in those non-European cultures what they found attractive
about the women, and now we'd have to go back in time to ask.
But the few non-European-contaminated cultures remaining in
the world don't place any emphasis on a woman's breasts. They
seem to place value on a strong, healthy body rather than any
particular part of the body.

Fawn wrote:
And I think most nursing done after the age of two, anywhere, is
probably more for emotional and bonding purposes than nutritional.

Ardeith writes:
Not necessarily.....we only have that luxury in our Western cultures.
In many Third World cultures, the only way a child survives is by
nursing as long as possible.....four or five years is normal.........
according to the WHO......
