One of the explanations of the reason cats play with their food
is...........
When cats play with there food for a while all the adrenaline goes
out of
the preys system. The prey is tired out and are through with the
adrenaline
rush. The food tastes better and isn't loaded with adrenaline.

Cats hunt for sport and they play with their food in a way that some
humans would consider cruel and unnecessarily drawn out. {Wild cats
do
this too, not just domesticated or feral cats]
