As to diseases not found in smokers, I'd tend to look first at nicotine -
it's a pretty active regulatory drug in its own right. The CDC site has a
worthwhile section on smoking science, and Medline searches with (name of
disease) and (nicotine) as search terms will likely yield a bunch of stuff.
