In the search for cheap but good food yesterday I discovered that tins of
sardines and herrings are super cheap at the grocery store. You can buy
them for a fraction of the cost of tuna. The basic tins are just water and
salt.

I had the herring so far, and it seems like a good quick snack.. $1
Canadian for a tin of herring with 22 grams of protein and omega-3 PUFAs in
it too (I don't rememeber the exact amount but more than 1 gram). The
sardines were 80 cents Cdn.

The tins do have salt in them cuz salt is a preservative. And I'm thinking,
there is not much one can do about it and that the benefits of the cheap
price, and good fish/omega-3s outweight the negative effects of salt being
in the water. Maybe have a banana to wash it down with cuz supposedly
potassium counteracts salt.

I also had the thought, these tins would be good snack food 'on the go'.
Have some tins in your bag and maybe some apples/carrots and you're fine.

Anyone disagree with the reasoning?
