Hi Trish,

I would highly recommend Dr. Richard K. Bernstein's books. He has had type 1 diabetes for 64 years and managed it with diet.

Go to Amazon, read the description, and then read some customer reviews.

"Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution: The Complete Guide to Achieving Normal Blood Sugars"
by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein

"The Diabetes Diet: Dr. Bernstein's Low-Carbohydrate Solution"
by Dr. Richard K. Bernstein

Here is an interview with him from Jan. 4, 2010, on Jimmy Moore's podcast
