The thyroid hormone T3 can also lower cholesterol.  While my thyroid 
numbers were normal, my body temperature was low.  T3 has lowered total 
cholesterol from the 215-220 range, which wasn't bad, to 154 without 
effecting HDL which is still high.  My body temperature has come up on 
100 mcg/day of T3 but it still never hits 98.6; most of the day it is 
below 98 with a short excursion just above late in the evening.  T3 can 
suppress TSH but free T3 and free T4 are still way normal.  I've just 
upped my T3 to 120 mcg and hopefully my cholesterol won't drop any farther.
