In the early 1960s I spent 8 months in Spain living with family
members in different communities. One thing they all had in common is
the daily shopping at their local farmers' market. Each morning my
aunt would go to the market get the fresh meat, the vegetables and the
fruits for the daily meal. Cheese and bread were also purchased. I
am now trying to emulate that with our local supermarket, so as to not
have veggies sitting in my refrigerator for days. I know it is the
best way for us to have the most of that vegetable's vitamin and
mineral content.
