Hi Gang,
Sorry to hear about Jim's bad experience camping in New Mexico.  I moved from there 2 years ago and I had just started getting into the paleo way of eating.  The one thing I miss from that State was the beef jerky.  You could go into almost any convience store and buy pretty natural beef jerky - they even have stores that specialize in it; many even list their ingredients.  (I  even still order from one through the mail)  I do sympathize with you about being at the mercy of your relatives for food choices though.  And my mouth just hurts thinking about all the sores - ouch.
