I can't find my copy now, but in _Fierce People_ Napoleon Chagnon said that
the Yanamamo ate the pith of some plant that to him tasted like soap. I
suppose that many foods that might not taste good to us were eaten by our
ancestors (heck, my Mom ate cod-liver oil)! Thus, in guessing what early
people may have eaten, I don't think we should rely _too_ heavily on our
perception of taste.
