Yeah, and I'm not sure why one would waste time trying to convince the
people at that Unilever site. The purpose of the site is to promote "The
Goodness of Margarine." At any rate, Anthony Colpo, Dr. Eades, Gary Taubes
and others have refuted most, if not all of the anti-saturated fat studies.

For example, the first study mentioned in response to the top question on
that site, the "Finnish Mental Hospital Study," was addressed by Colpo in
The Great Cholesterol Con - why everything you've been told about
cholesterol, diet and heart disease is wrong!:

"The Finnish Mental Hospital Study was so badly conduced that even NHLBI
staff criticized it at length in a 1973 edition of the prominent British
journal The Lancet. In fact, the northern European studies (marked 'NE')
have generally been such atrocious aberrations of the scientific process
that Russel L. Smith, Ph.D. author of Diet, Blood Cholesterol and Coronary
Heart Disease: a Critical Review of the Literature, the largest critical
scientific evaluation of the lipid hypothesis ever published, wrote: ".it is
completely bewildering how some of the trials were ever approved by funding
agencies because they probably could not be designed more poorly if the
researchers purposely tried to do so."

Colpo argued that the problem with sites like
http://www.satfatnav.com/Experts/AskOurNutritionist.aspx is that the
anti-SFA people don't bother to read the entire studies that they cite.
Colpo read them all and revealed that the actual study results often don't
support the conclusions of the authors or the studies are otherwise fatally
flawed. When Colpo had a free website I checked out his claims vs. the
claims of the study authors for several of the studies that Colpo analyzed
and found Colpo to be correct in each case. That doesn't mean he's always
right, but his claim that the anti-fat people don't bother to read the
entire studies did seem to be on target.

Gary Taubes also refutes many of the anti-SFA studies in his book Good
Calories, Bad Calories.
