Tomato paste often has gluten in it. If you see something like natural
flavors, or flavorings, then you can be sure there is HVP/MSG in it. Often
gluten is used, as it is an inexpensive protein to hydrolyze.

Also you have to watch for tomato paste listed as an ingredient in other
products. Since the US FDA allows firms to not list ingredients of
ingredients, when tomato paste is listed it can in turn contain unlisted
HVP/MSG.

Five Brothers spaghetti sauce is the only one I'll touch. They made a
decision in 1991 to not include any HVP in their products.
