  Moderns have shown more adaptability to a broader range of resources than
previous humanoids. From waterways to deserts, grassy savanna to tundra,
they were able to expand, to encompass almost the entire globe. Trying to
say that certain features indicate where we evolved from, may be misleading.
It could be, such features allowed us a greater range to feed in.
