I don't know if this holds true for only me, a small percentage of the
population, or in general, but when I was eating pasta, bread, and corn
chips, that was THE rule. Otherwise, I would wake up in the middle of the
night with acid reflux, agonizing heartburn, and other wonderful
afflictions. Now that I no longer eat that garbage, it doesn't matter. In
fact, I ate two steaks and 6 strips of bacon for dinner the other night at
10:00, then went to bed at 11:00 and was fine.

I don't know who invented the don't eat before sleeping rule, but
it sounds dumber than the don't eat before swimming rule. (Ask a
lifegaurd, the rule is a myth). I make sure I get a lot to eat before
going to bed so that I can not be a raving lunitic when I wake up.
