So, is eating raw Salmon safe?

Are there any precautions one should take to make certain it is safe? (Is smell safe enough?)

I'm still stuck in the neo' thinking that all meat has to be cooked to kill off "bugs".

However, if it is safe, I'd like to try raw Salmon!
