hi Jim,
I suspect there are a few UC/CD/IBD people following paleo type diets.
I developed UC after following a very high carb/grain type diet for several
years (similar to macrobiotic), though never saw the connection even though
I was generally whiped out. There may have been other factors involved
because some people can handle it, who knows. I believe the factors are both
genetic(mind/body) and environment.
What works for me (and others it seems), is total elimination of all grains,
sucrose sugars, fake fats/sugars, lactose (but hard cheese is good- only fat
and pro.), several others starchy carbs such as
potato,tapioca,casaba,arrowroot etc.
I use other things such as Yoga. I am not into supplements much, since I see
them as temporary fixes and prefer the real thing. Some have found MSM good.
The only supplement I like is Noni juice. O-3 also has a big impact.

The idea is that people's bodies are not really adapted to the SAD diet, or
most of the fad diets out there. A paleo diet is natural though.
It sounds hard to follow initially but actually it becomes the easiest thing
in the world. If I go out, its not hard to find salads, fruits,
steaks/fish/cheese/nuts etc. or vegetables. Cooking at home is simple too.
The effect of this diet is that I have been steroid free since starting
basically, and haven't had a flare up for 7 months. BM's are normalized as
well as blood sugar. I still get some minor symptoms, but am quite sure
these too will disappear given time.. Rome wasn't built in a day.
Feel free to tell your wife about anything related to Paleo diets, "SCD
diet", non-extreme low carbs diets etc. UC/CD/IBD is a horrible thing.
It's also not a co-incidence that UC/CD/IBD is unknown in communities such
as Inuit/Greenlanders/Faroe Islands, Pacific Islands and other intact
indigenous peoples not eating the SAD diet and having a good O-3 to O-6
ratio.

reg.,
Dean.

I was wondering if you can elaborate on your mentioned condition of
ulcerative colitis. Specifically how you deal with it, have you found
cure or semi-cure and how does your use of paleo eating impact your colitis?
