Arthur McConnachie asked:
In a nutshell, what improvements have you noticed since you started taking
the supplement? How did you determine the daily amount?

Many people Don and I know and have recommended Carlon's cod liver oil to
have said that they have relief from arthritic pain, better immunity, fewer
colds and flus, etc. Cod liver oil has vit. A & D in addition to EPA and
DHA. If you have kids (or if one is pregnant, lactating, or planning to
conceive) the cod liver oil is crucial, from all that I have studied (See
Nutrition & Physical Degeneration by Weston Price DDS or the Price Pottenger
Nutrition Foundation or the Weston A. Price Foundation for more on cod liver
oil, Vit. A & D and native diets.)!

We know people who's kids with ADHD had drammatic improvements in memory,
concentration, and listenign ability after two weeks of taking it. How much
you take depends upon whether the cod liver oil is emulsified (in which case
you need 1 Tbsp. to replace 1 tsp. of non-emulsified). Don and I both have
noticed improved immunity from that plus eating more protein than on a vegan
or near-vegan or vegetarian whole foods diet.

Sometimes we use Max DHA (capsules) instead of cod liver oil (when we are
eating organ meats or powdered organ meats regularly. We usually prefer the
cod liver oil if we are not eating organ meats on a regular basis.

For the Max DHA, I believe the dose is 2 capsules a day, although I have
taken more when I was dealing with back pain due to an injury and wanted to
"modulate" inflammatory prostaglandins in the hopes of reducing pain and
inflammation. (I also took certain Chinese herbs with a history of
effectiveness for this, so I did not rely on the fish oil alone.)

There is not risk of getting too much DHA if you take cod liver oil or fish
oils capsules and eat fatty ocean fish. However, one could presumably take
in too much Vit. A & D if taking cod liver oil and a Multi-Vitamin product
which contains A & D or cod liver oil + organ meats several times per week.
