The short answer is - not necessarily.

The longer answer is that the principle of NeanderThin - only eat what you could
eat if you were naked with a sharp stick - is not contradictory to any principle
in Atkins or the Zone.   In fact, the new book by the authors of "Protein Power"
- the third low-carb diet usually mentioned together with Atkins and the Zone,
now officially endorses "paleo" as one of its major principles.   And, Dr. Sears
has acknowledged the "paleo" diet as an ideal.

So, you could do Neanderthin and Atkins at the same time, or Neanderthin and the
Zone at the same time.   And, in fact, "Protein Power" recommends doing an
Atkins-like diet at first, until you are close to your goal weight, and then
shifting to a more Zone-like diet (which is easier to do during the
"maintenance" phase, when you don't have to watch the portions, carbs, and fat
content as closely).
