And the sweet rolls, gravy & biscuits and pancakes!

Thanks to all who responded! I have been eating a celiac
diet (no wheat, rye, barley etc) since the first of the year
and had eaten out a couple times. Hadn't been out to eat
since going paleo. Tested for the trip by going to one of
the Council Bluffs IA casinos buffets last night. Lots of
food for 2 folk for only $25. It was enlightening :)

Salad bar offered shredded lettuce and cherry tomatoes that
were obviously safe. Other things offered were some kind of
chopped ham (?), chunks of cheese, croutons & dressings. I
passed on those. Lots of cold peeled shrimp, cocktail sauce
questionable. "Chinese" area all breaded, fried and/or
containing noodles. Pass again. Fruit table had
outstanding fresh pineapple, limp melon chunks and
everything else obviously canned. Veggies offered were
mashed pots, corn and baby carrots with chive pieces. Tried
the latter and found their sweetness had been supplemented
with maple! Meats: pork medallions kept moist in brown
sauce, "prime" rib (can't do beef), grilled whitefish with
grilled pineapple rings (and something added?), steamed
mussels (tiny and rubbery) and steamed (read boiled) crab
legs. Also some stuffed crab with white sauce that was
obviously out. Made do with crab, shrimp, pineapple and
tomatoes. This morning my sugar is up about 80 points
(fasting) and the scales say I'm holding about 4 pounds of
extra fluid. Sigh.

Looks like I will be bringing my own foods: obviously
lunch/dinner is out unless I stick with salads, bring my own
dressing & pick out the unwanted stuff; even breakfast isn't
safe as I have no idea what they cook the eggs in, bacon &
ham would be cured and unsoaked, sausage probably contain
questionable ingredients, the fruit canned and the juice
from concentrate. So the $6 breakfast would give me 2-3
eggs and with the new law about egg yolk, these will
probably have cooked to death and have their biotin
destroyed. No bargain there.

Ah, well, the fun is not only in the food. There will be
other things to enjoy since I feel better.
