According to Genesis, mankind started out on an essentially raw food
vegetarian diet. After the Deluge, mankind was given meat as food as well
(see Gen. 9). Later additions to the diet, such as grains, did not come into
play until the population had grown to the point where cities are mentioned.
This occurred around the time of Babel, the cradle of civilization. Thus,
God suggested fruit, vegetables, nuts, and meat. The rest was mankind's
(un)doing. I was aware of this Biblical approach to diet long before Ray
penned Neanderthin.
