>>Differing opinions of flaxseed oil -- it's oxidizing properties could make
it harmful. But then again, it's omega 3 content can help the body a lot,
esp. to offset the omega 6 from lots of nuts.<<

I feed it to my dogs to offset the large amounts of Omega-6 in the poultry
they eat. When I run out, I can tell the difference in their coats. When
they are getting enough for correct balance, they look like they have been
polished. Mastiffs are not a "shiny" coated breed but my guys gleam when
they are getting enough flaxseed.

However, I buy the seed whole, and grind it minutes before it is eaten, so
it DOESN'T oxidize before being eaten. It is MUCH cheaper than the oil and
the oil is incredibly expensive as well as never smelling TOTALLY fresh to
my persnickety nose. I pay $12.50 per 50-lb bag for brown flax seed at Mule
City Feeds in Benson NC. This is a price and qualtity that allows me to
feed it to both the dogs and the chickens! It is great for improving
nutritional qualities of eggs!
