I think it's beneficial to keep the water flowing in *and* out.
Me, I'm prone to edema in the legs, and I can always tell when
I've gone over my carb limit (now that I'm almost completely
paleo, that's when I've eaten too much fruit or too many nuts)
because my feet swell, which really exacerbates my heel spur.  So
for me, it's definitely beneficial not to carry around extra
fluid, but I really couldn't speak for others.
