This question is just for the female population of paleo-eaters: Has
this diet helped/hindered the perimenopausal part of you in any way? Is
anyone else on the diet perlmenopausal? Do you find yourself and your
body needing more kinds of different food to make it through the
day(such as soy/tofu products for calcium build up?) Especially for
Muriel: since you have the alphabet soup boys, some with special needs,
have you found that you have needed an adjustment of two for those
alphabets needing special diets? And what adjustments have you made? I
am 46 and have found the diet wonderful for my brain (epilepsy) but
something is lackingin the endocrine system, and I am reluctant to
include Premarin in my diet unless absolutely necessary. And them who
decides when and if necessary. The Hunk (Forrest, husband) has decided
that it is already necessary, and I am experiencing the usual
pre-menopausal symptoms of depression, mood swings, usually high blood
pressure (240/130) and other wonderful things like sitting arround and
crying for no resaon and a loss of libido (I thought that only happened
to men!) This tells me it is time to coordinate diet with maybe
homeopathic remedies, or an herbal builder,as well as increased
vitamins, etc. Gentlemen: I appreciate your opinions, but please
remember the symptoms described above are solely limited to females and
limit your responses to the subject. (And if I yell at you, which I will
try not to do, don't take it too personally!) While we're on the
subject of chemical changes in our bodies, how have the male members
fared as time marches on? The sypmtoms The Hunk has been experiencing
lead me to believe males DO have an endocrine adjustment to make, also.
It hasn't been on TV (or has it? We still don't have one and it has
become a battle of wits and language now to see who wins!) so there Is
no current societal discussion of how male baby boomers will enter their
60's. The Hunk is 50, and still cannot believe (in his heart) that the
old equipment just doesn't work like it used to. How has the diet
affected males in this respect as well? Better? Worse? Feedback would be
nice. Since the endocrine system regulates just about every other system
in the body, how does the diet work on you? Noticed any changes? Good?
Bad? The thing we find the most remarkable is that WE CAN THINK! I
remember thinking in my youth (Ah...the good old days!!) But I had not
noticed a lack of thinking in the now, until we began to think again.
Words come faster, Names from the past are once again on the tip of my
tongue, mental arithmetic works again, conversations are richer, and I
remember them in the morning, like, well, like they were yesterday, to
coin a phrase. I have read of this on the list before, so I know I'm not
alone in that respect. My mother chalks this up to her Ginko
supplement, which may well be true, but I think it is the eating of meat
that does it for us. Ginko is a wonderful addition, but the meat must be
there for it to work on/with. Oseoporosis may alreay be a concern
(sciatica, and Dad has had back sugery for crumbling lumbar bones
already and he's only 69. His mother, two of his sisters and a brother
are at risk or have had problems with osteoporosis or back surgery.
Mom's family is were the heart problems come from. I fell that I'm
damned if I do, damned if I don't right now, because, after all, I'm a
child of the 60's, and I will live forever! Some days I feel "HOW DARE
MY BODY IS GETTING OLD!"I have crammed as much of the stuff running
around my head as possible for now. I would appreciate any and all
opinions as this relates to the diet. Thank You. Sherry
