The problem that I have with this theory is that a similar ailment was rampant
among the Kuru people who were very primitive.  They used no pesticides, but
they did eat their dead in ritual ceremonies.  They began developing CJD, and
it was linked to the consumption of their relatives' brains, etc.

An excellent book on mad cow is "Deadly Feasts" by Richard Rhodes.  He traces
the known history of CJD up to the prion theories.
