I just snagged the book at B&N and will read it this weekend. I can see at
a glance that it is for the mass market but isn't that a good thing as to
the goal of "getting the message out?" I have no problem with L. Cordain
being rewarded for his vision and labor.

I have already corresponded with Dr Cordain on this matter. He originally
conceived of this book as laying more of a scientific foundation for the
Paleo Diet. The people at Wiley steered him away from that towards a more
commercial, standard diet book.

Commercial diet books is not where one fights the intellectual battles with
other professionals. That is best left to peer-reviewed journals.

Dr Cordain does indeed have a 2nd book now in the planning stages: "The
main theme will be how critical changes in the human diet altered our
genome, shaped our present society and underlies most chronic disease in
the western world."

I have no idea on when this might be published. He did forward me a galley
copy of an upcoming paper that gently touches upon the above theme.
