This is true for the animal as well as the human.  Robert Saporsky, a
research scientist and professor of biological science and neuroscience at
Stanford University, as well as Elnora Van Winkle, a neuroscientist with
Millhauser Laboratories of the Department of Psychiatry at NY Univ. School
of Medicine, have written numerous papers on this.
