Obesity is disadvantgeous, when it impairs your physical capabilities (running etc) 
(there might be a gender difference - if you believe in "man the hunter" / "woman the gatherer")

But  wouldn´t  moderate overweight (a few kgs )  be advantageous?  
as an energy reserve ( for food scarcity and disease, broken limbs etc.) 
and perhaps for insulation (subcutaneous fat)  -  were the eskimos fatter than the bushmen ?
