this is very interesting.  But if the liver can catabolise excess protein to
make glucose in its dietary absence, why would there be such a difference?

Maybe the answer lies in insulin spikes from high sugar ingestion.   Since
insulin is an anabolic hormone, maybe it contributes to better neuron
activity or development of synapses??
