Sally Fallon's book Nourishing Traditions argues that fermented milk is
much easier to digest than normal (pasteurised, homogenised) milk.
Nourishing Traditions is not paleo, but tends more towards paleo than
conventional nutritional wisdom. It's a good stepping stone from a SAD
to a paleo diet. Sally makes extensive use of yoghurt in her recipes.

The enzymes used to make yoghurt breaks down the lactose in the milk,
thus yoghurt can often be consumed by lactose intolerant people. There
is still the issue of allergies to milk (typically the casein protein)
which are fairly prevalent in modern people.

In addition, from memory Weston Price in Nutrition and Physical
Degeneration, suggested dairy products were a healthy part of modern
hunter-gatherers' diets.
