And I don't know where "koisan" peoples live....
but the Yanonami live in tropical regions and don't
have to face cold weather. I think it is the Bushmen
of Africa who develop very fat buttocks when times
are good.....and utilize that fat when times are bad.
And the Yanonami have access to starchy tubers
as a part of their diet.....but not the major part.

Those of us from Northern climates survived the winter
cold by putting on a thick layer of "good" fat to see
us through.......which people from hot climates didn't
need.....but people from hot climates can gain fat just
as easily as those of us whose ancestors came from
the cold North. Now....when we try to lose weight,
our bodies scream, "No! You're starving me! I'll
never survive the winter!" And our metabolism
slows down to preserve that fat. So the trick is
to fool the body so that it doesn't go into "save
the fat" mode.

One way I've found to do that is to nibble....to
never let my stomach get totally empty, so my
body doesn't start screaming "I'm starving."
What I nibble is the important thing. Our
pliestocene ancestors nibbled.....one nut for
the basket, one for me......one berry for the
basket, one for me.....tasty leaves.....tender
shoots.....insects, eggs, whatever.....hunter/
gatherers still do this.....So, I decided to try
to eat nibbles rather than three meals a day,
because I think nibbling is the way we evolved.

I nibble pieces of jerky instead of bugs or
chewing gum......and try not to let my stomach
totally empty before sending more food down.
It seems to work for me......I'm gradually losing
the weight I put on last year when the docs put
me on cortisone for a couple of months..........
I'll take "gradually"......afterall, it's taken me
40 years to get in this shape, and I can spend
a year or two taking it off.......
