Just fruit and honey, or fruit and honey mixed with
the primary pemmican ingredients - meat and fat? My
understanding is that there's lot of different recipes
for pemmican. Just so long as the basic ingredients
are used.

IMHO - the verdict is still out. Edible raw? -
obviously. New world food?- yes. Some folks sensitive
to it (a nightshade plant)?- yes. Ray lists them as a
permissable fruit in the latest Neanderthin. I dunno.
I still eat them, and I will probably will continue to
do so since they don't seem to cause me any problems.

Ray's probably right.

They're tasty. Actually, I think it's an individual
metabolic thing. Some of the folks on this list can
probably eat fruit all day and not gain an ounce,
whereas others probably can't eat much (or any) at
all. Paleo is a much more retrictive diet than SAD,
but it still allows for a HUGE range of variability. I
think too many folks are taking a "one size fits all"
approach to paleo.

I'm curious about this as well. I know a lot of the
sauces use a soy or rice base, but does the food
actually get "contaminated" during the cooking
process?

According to a Natural Hygiene tract I once read,
foods like onions and (hot) peppers are verboten
because a "natural" human would spit them out because
of the irritating flavor. However, I, like you, can
eat them like crazy. When we go to a restaurant that
serves them as a garnish, I always end up eating all
the hot peppers at the table. So, I guess that makes
me unnatural. Either that, or there's something to the
"rush" that must be drug-like, so I must be an addict.
