There is a diet for people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) called the
specific carbohydrate diet (SCD). It is also used by people with celiac
disease and IBS. It is based on the hypothesis that people with IBD have
difficulty digesting complex carbohydrates. In order to heal the intestines
the diet initially only allows well cooked vegetables and fruits that have
been seeded and peeled. The diet is described in a book by Elaine Gottschall
called "Breaking the Vicious Cycle". You can learn more about it at her
website"
