This is good advice, but I thought I would present another point of view.
All of my animals (2 cats, 2 dogs, and I had 3 foster kittens) were
started on full BARF (Bones And Raw Foods) the minute they got to my
house. No problems at all, except for a little diarrhea in an already
sick pup (from the shelter). We do raw eggs with no problems (I eat them
too!). Salmonella can only cause a problem if the immune system isn't
handling it. It isn't the microbe that makes us sick, but our immune
system (if it isn't working properly).

If anyone is interested, I have written up the story of my Australian
Shepherd mix puppy Barbeque, who was taken from the shelter with several
diseases and parasites, put on BARF at my house, and cured all the
diseases and got rid of the parasites with no drugs or anything - just raw
food. Email me privately and I can send it to you:)
